Have you ever tried something in your business and wound up feeling like a failure? Trust me when I say, you’re not the only one, I have totally felt this way! The sleepless nights working on a project you’re sure will be “it”, the proposals sent without hearing anything back, the client who replied ‘you’re too expensive for my budget’… It can leave us feeling like failures!
But what if I told you that failure does not exist. Would you believe me? Let me explain…
How it clicked for me
Last year, I was determined to take a few projects out of my drawer and make them a reality. I hired a mentor to specifically help me launch my online shop, which I thought was what I needed to do to be successful as an educator.
I worked a ton of long days, even longer nights, and launched my shop. On paper, the shop did well. I converted visitors into sales but I didn’t quite reach the financial goals I had set for myself. And I became SUPER frustrated about it. So much so that I thought about giving up on everything – including my wedding photography business… which you know is a huge part of who I am! I felt defeated and like a huge failure!
I talked to my mentor and asked her to tell me what I was doing wrong… but she said I was doing everything right by the book, there were nothing to change. But, I realized I wasn’t showing up consistently to sell my products… I tried it and tried it but couldn’t show up to back my products up! But I still couldn’t figure out WHY that was happening, especially because I’m a very dedicated person.
I decided it was time do some soul searching and understand why I was not succeeding in my plans. The need to find my own answers led me to become a Certified Transformational Coach. I then started applying the coaching tools I’ve learned in my own life and business. And it hit me… Like a ton of bricks: I wasn’t showing up to sell my products because the shop wasn’t what lit my fire and wasn’t what my MISSION in life is all about. I still get emotional thinking about the moment I realized I wasn’t a failure, I was just not following my mission in life.
At that point, I closed the shop and realized I had to put my energy where it really matters to me, to my mission and my calling to help others live a prosper life!
To many people, closing my shop shortly after I opened it may look like a bigger failure. I lost money, I didn’t achieve the financial goal I had set, the list goes on and on. But I no longer see it as a failure. Through some Neuro-Linguistic Program (NLP) exercises, I’ve learned to reshape my thoughts and I understood that…
Failure does not exist! The reality is that we tried something that didn’t turn out as expected!
By shifting my mindset, instead of seeing that outcome as a failure I could then see that I achieved Clarity instead! I now know that selling products online is not part of my end goal.
That’s not failure, That’s Clarity!
Clarity can change your life
It’s SO easy to look at a goal you missed and think “I’ve failed”. But, if you’re able to see that experience as something you tried, but the results was just not what you expected, your whole world will change! These aren’t failures – they’re just NOT your final destination!!!
I want to encourage you to remember that your “failures” do not mean you’re not worthy. They don’t mean your not capable of achieving what you want in life. They’re merely experiences that you’ve tried and are a part of your journey to your life’s purpose and mission! Take the time to seek clarity before you start any new project. Ask yourself, is this aligned with my core values as a person and business owner? Will this take me closer to my final destination?
When you consistently seek clarity, everything you do in and for your business will keep you on the right path for success you dream!
