Ahh as if planning a wedding wasn’t already overwhelming, now we have to add an unknown virus on top of it?
Hey, my sweet friend! First of all all, my heart goes out to you!!! I understand you are probably feeling uncertain right now and are looking for answers as we get closer to your wedding day. Since the CDC’s latest recommendation came out, I’ve been thinking about ways to help brides to have at least a little bit of a plan: a plan A and a B!!!
So let’s start with Plan A: Your venue is still open and the wedding is happening on the date of your 1st choice!
If your wedding is still happening but social distancing is still being recommended you could do a few things to help keep everyone safe. Here are some tips:
1. Ask your venue to place hand sanitizer all over the place with a cute sign saying: “Spread Love and not germs!” – It’s a cute and effective way to keep everyone’s hands clean!
2. Create a Facebook Group and invite all your guests to join. On the day of your wedding, bring a laptop or an iPad and stream your day LIVE within the group, so your guests that are not able to attend can watch and be present with you.
Use the space to keep everyone updated AND, most importantly, to remind them to stay at home if not feeling well… They will be able to see everything on the live stream!
3. Let’s create a way to keep the elderly safe! Instead of “isolating” your grandparents, let’s create a place of honor for them! Ask your venue to design the floor in a way that your grandparents can have a ‘special’ table for them only.
You can maybe have your sweetheart table in the center and 2 tables on each side of you that would keep the “Social Distance Standards” to keep your elderly guests safe and still make them feel loved and included.
4. If your venue can accommodate it, move the dancing outdoors. This way your guests will be able to have fun while keeping some distance and minimizing risks by not being all enclosed in a place without fresh air.
Now let’s talk about Plan B: You must reschedule your wedding!
I know this is NOT what anyone wants to do, but if it comes to that, it’s better to have a plan B. So here are my recommendations for you:
- If you are working with a planner, reach out to them right away. I’m sure they will be more than happy to help you with all the bureaucratic work.
If you don’t have a planner, it’s time to create that plan B. Start by reaching out to your venue and ask about their current plan. If they are not hosting gatherings and that impacts your day, ask for all the dates they have available for rescheduling.
2. Create a list of all vendors you have a contract with. Write them down in order of priority to YOU. Who are the vendors in this list that you don’t want to get married without? Reach out to them 1st, as they will probably be the ones booking out soon with all of the other rescheduling couples.
3. Before you make any decisions, talk to all vendors you have a contract with and ask about their rescheduling and refund policies. Make sure you have options before making any decisions.
4. Based on the availability of the venue and your favorite vendors, secure a new date!

I know it’s hard and easier said than done, but don’t despair! Everything will work out at the end! Be open to new possibilities and new dreams. Remember that the most important thing is the love you and your fiancé share!
